NEW ENGLAND CHIPPENDALE BIRCH SLANT-LID DESK. Second half 18th century. The rectangular dovetailed case with hinged thumbmolded sloping lid opening to an interior fitted with valanced pigeonholes above two document drawers, centering a stack of three blocked and fan-carved drawers and a pair of letter drawers with engaged half-columns, above four long graduated drawers, retaining original brass handles and escutcheons, on a molded base raised on shaped bracket feet with scalloped returns centering a drop pendant. SIZE: 42-1/4″ h. x 39-3/4″ case w. x 21-1/4″ d. CONDITION: Professionally repolished and restored. Base original with restoration. 9-92834 (2,500-3,000)
