*FABULOUS MERKEL MODEL 303EJ OVER/UNDER SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 96739. Spectacular Merkel with 28” superposed bbls choked FULL/MOD with flat, tapered, matted, solid rib, sgl bead, dbl crossbolt extensions, dbl underbites, ejectors & dbl triggers, the front articulated. Mounted with extremely beautiful, tiger-striped & burl, dark circassian walnut with checkered 3-pc forearm & pistol grip stock, 14-3/8” over a hard rubber buttplate. Checkering is very fine. It has coin finished, full hand detachable sidelock receiver with cocked indicators and spectacular, full game scene engraved lockplates having deep relief vignette of a setter on point with five partridge in a field scene with stippled background on left side. Right side is equally beautiful with deep relief engraved fox & five pheasants in a forest scene with both vignettes executed in great detail. Receiver has full coverage, extremely well executed, foliate arabesque patterns with stippled background and all appended metal is engraved to match with patterns extending 1-1/4” over chamber of top bbl and down bbl reinforcements. Accompanied by its orig green cardboard box numbered to this shotgun. Bore diameter: top – .724, bottom – .723. Bore restrictions: top – .042, bottom – .028. Wall thickness: top – .034, bottom – .029. Drop at heel: 2-3/8”, drop at comb: 1-3/8”. Weight: 7 lbs. 9.28 oz. CONDITION: Extraordinarily fine, probably unfired. Retains all of its brilliant orig factory finish to both metal & wood with some very minor shrinkage around receiver. Wood has one or two tiny mars in the beautiful, hand rubbed, oil finish.
