AMERICAN RENAISSANCE REVIVAL CARVED WALNUT HUNT BOARD. Circa 1860. This fine example crested with realistically carved deer head above a graduated two-shelf back having raised incised panels, centering inset burled panels, stepped back on the lower case, having a fitted marble top with molded edges on the conforming case. The bowed sides fitted with pivoting drawers above conforming cupboard doors, each mounted with a finely carved fruit cluster. The center fitted with a long drawer above a cupboard door featuring a carved cluster of game and fruit, the whole on a molded plinth. SIZE: 7’9″ h. x 5’4″ w. x 22-1/2″ d. PROVENANCE: From an extensive private Gulf Coast collection. CONDITION: The sideboard retains most of its original finish, somewhat thin and washed. Some losses to half-round trim molding, repaired split base of back left side facing, some rippling to burl veneers base of back, small shrinkage splits throughout, shrinkage splits in each of lower case doors, loss to one antler tip.
