STEPHEN GRANT BEST QUALITY SIDE LOCK HEAVY GAME GUN WITH TWO SETS OF BARRELS AND ORIGINAL CASE. SN 5706. Cal. 10ga. 3″ Chambers. Double triggers. Automatic safety. 32″ and 28″ Boldly figured Damascus bbls are engraved “Stephen Grant. 67a. St.James’s Street. London.” on wide flat ribs, and have SN “5706” (1887) stamped on bottom. 32″ Bbls are marked no. “2.” and stamped “10B” “12M” and “Not for …”. 28″ Bbls are just stamped w/ “10”. Action has dual under lugs, double fluted beads, and serpentine filed fences, typical of early Grants before they developed their later style. Engraving is finely executed, English closed scroll w/ “Stephen Grant” on lock plates. Scroll engraved trigger guard has SN on grip. “Safe” is inlaid in gold on top tang. Beautifully figured and marbled straight grip Circassian walnut buttstock measures 14″ over checkered wood butt w/ engraved steel heel and toe plates, featuring vacant silver oval, drop points, and 22 LPI checkering w/ mullered borders. Splinter forend has Anson release, and checkering to match buttstock. 32″ Bbls: Bore diameter: left -.780, right -.785. Bore restrictions: left -.025, right -.035. Wall thickness: left -.029, right -.029. Drop at heel: 2-1/4″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight: 7 lbs 14oz. 28″ Bbls: Bore diameter: left -.0794, right -.791. Bore restrictions: left -.000, right -.000. Wall thickness: left -.027, right -.025. Weight: 7 lbs 9oz. Original Oak and leather CASE has brass corners, stenciled on lid and either side of handle “F.T. 10”. Interior is lined w/ red cloth, w/ Stephen Grant label and charge card. Accessories include pair of 10ga snap caps, steel oil bottle, and pair of “Little Skeeters” 12ga adapters. PROVENANCE: Dr. Frank Miller Collection. CONDITION: Fine. Both sets of bbls retain almost all of their orig bold pattern w/ few slight rubs and some thinning from use. Action and lock plates retain 98% of good quality re-color hardening. Engraving is still quite good. Stocks retain most of old hand rubbed oil refinish w/ edges slightly rounded, and pistol grip removed. Bores are good, w/ some frosting. Action is tight. Right 32″ bbl is slightly off face. Condition is same for 28″. CASE leather is dark w/ numerous scrapes and abrasions. Straps and handle are new replacements. Interior partitions are generally good, one is a bit loose. Cloth shows soiling and rubs from contacts w/ guns. Label shows silverfish damage, and rubs. Charge label is illegible from silverfish damage. 4-35683 MGM91 (6,000-9,000)
