FINE PARKER VERY EARLY ROUND ACTION LIFTER DAMASCUS HAMMER SHOTGUN. Cal. appears to be 10 ga. SN 158. Fine early Parker Brothers shotgun with 31-7/8″ laminated steel bbls with smooth, concave rib, single bead, & extractor. The rib is marked “PARKER BROS MAKERS MERIDAN CONN’ LAMINATED STEEL.” Although the chamber and bores appear to be 10 ga., a 10 ga., snap cap will not completely seat in the chamber. These early guns were apparently chambered for a special cartridge. Receiver is completely round with thick, pronounced fences, non-rebounding hammers on the peninsula locks with a projecting pin lifter with screwed on pad. Mounted with straight grain American walnut with checkered splinter forearm and single wedge with straight stock 14-1/4″ over a smooth, steel buttplate. Serial number was observed on the water table, side of bbl lug, inside each lockplate, inside lower tang of trigger guard, stamped in lower tang channel of stock, inside of toe of buttplate, on the forend iron, and on the wedge. CONDITION: Fine plus, the bbls retain 50-60% thin laminated pattern with traces of original browning in the sheltered areas. Receiver retains dark case coloring in the very sheltered areas with the balance turned silver. Lockplates and hammers have traces of faded case colors, strong underneath the hammer areas. Wood is sound with light handling and use marks, a ding or two in the stock, and retains most of its original finish. There is a repaired scratch on the left side of the wrist above the lockplate. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bores. 4-59101 JR660 (2,000-3,000)
