*J. RIGBY & CO. SIDE LOCK EJECTOR GAME GUN. SN 17369. Cal. 12ga. Double triggers. Automatic safety. 28″ Dove-tailed steel bbls are engraved “J. Rigby & Co. London. W. 1.” in Gothic script on narrow concave game rib, and the number “1” is inlaid in gold on the rib extension. Bbl flats have old nitro proof marks x’d out and have relatively new Birmingham nitro proofs for 2-1/2″ chambers and are stamped “Sleeved”. SN “17369” (ca 1908) is engraved on bottom of right bbl, and “Sleeved” on the left. No. “4341” is on the loop, and “76682” on the bottom rib. Case hardened action has double under lugs and Scott screw grip third fastener. It has acanthus border engraving w/ “J. Rigby & Co.” in Gothic script on the front of both lock plates, and the Rigby Double R logo inlaid in gold on each lock plate. “1” is inlaid in gold on the top lever, and “safe” is inlaid in gold on the top tang. Trigger guard has SN and border engraving. Lightly figured and streaked straight grip English walnut buttstock measures 14-1/4″ over smooth wood butt. Buttstock has vacant silver oval, and 18 LPI checkering w/ mullered borders. Anson release splinter forend has checkering and wood to match buttstock, and no. “1” inlaid in gold in the metal tip. Bore diameter: left -.727, right -.727. Bore restrictions: left -.016, right -.008. Wall thickness: left -.025, right -.032. Drop at heel: 2-1/8″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight:6 lbs 11oz. CONDITION: Very fine as refurbished. Bbls retain virtually all high quality re-black. Sleeve line almost unnoticeable on right bbl bit is evident on the left. Bores are bright and shiny. Action retains 95% of very pleasing re-case color, silvering on the action beads. Trigger guard and top lever retain most of their blue, top lever silvering at thumb piece. Screw slots show use. Wood retains virtually all its restored oil finish. Wood is slightly under the metal in the grip area. Action is tight, bbls are on face. Ejectors are in time. Nicely re-cut checkering is good, showing some wear. A lovely old gun given a new lease on life, and ready for the next hundred years. 4-35600 MGM55 (8,000-10,000)
