AFTER GIOVANNI BATTISTA TIEPOLO (Italian, 1696-1770) THE WEDDING FEAST AT CANA. Large 18th Century Venetian School oil on canvas shows an interior scene of a large room with three arched windows looking out onto a tall multi-story building and arched portico. The room is set with a long white table and there are a number of people (16) at the table centered by Jesus and Mary. Eight other people are behind the table, fourteen others are in the foreground including waiters, musicians, and children. Unsigned. Housed in a 19th Century painted and gilt frame having an artist plaque. The Feast of Cana is one of the miracles of Jesus in the Gospels and the first miracle in the Gospel of John. It was reported that this was when Jesus turned water into wine and “This was the first miracle of Jesus and it was performed to reveal his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him (John 2:11)”. SIZE: 46-1/2″ x 79″. PROVENANCE: From a large Boston, MA area Estate. CONDITION: There are several holes and tears with losses, in need of restoration but generally in good condition.
