BLACK BAKELITE BUTTON CUT FROM VON RICHTHOFEN’S FLYING COAT. Before the autopsy on von Richthofen’s remains, his heavy flying coat was removed and the buttons were discarded. Lt. Frank Mart of No. 3 Sqdn., Australian Flying Corps, recovered one button and many years later presented it to Carisella, together with a piece of fabric from the crashed tri-plane. PROVENANCE: Carisella mentions the gift of the button in a letter (photocopy included) to Herr Holzer in Germany. CONDITION: Fine. SIZE: 1-9/10” diameter. From the Collection of the late P. J.
