RARE CHARLES DALY DIAMOND GRADE DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUN. Cal. 10 ga. SN 1251. Fabulous Prussian made Daly, originally as an 8 bore with 30-1/8” bbls, sleeved to 10 gauge. It has the orig tapered, concave, matted rib with sgl ivory bead, crossbolt rib extension, dbl underbites, extractor & dbl triggers. Rib is marked in gold “CHARLES DALY DIAMOND QUALITY KRUPP STEEL BARRELS”. Mounted with extremely beautiful French or circassian walnut with black tipped, checkered, splinter forearm and pistol grip stock with checkered teardrop side panels, 13-5/8” over a serrated horn buttplate. Bottom of stock has a blank initial oval and grip cap is also of horn. Receiver and all appended metal are fantastically deep relief engraved in foliate & floral patterns with a raised rib in scallop pattern around fences. It has a wonderfully detailed, raised gold flying goose on left side in a detailed woodland scene, a wonderfully detailed, raised gold flying goose in a marsh scene on right side, a very beautifully detailed raised gold swan in a marsh scene on bottom and two raised gold flying ducks in a marsh scene on trigger bow. Engraving is full coverage and extends over top & bottom tangs, opening lever, forend iron and 1” up bbls. A truly magnificent representation of the engraver’s art. Bore diameter: left – .768, right – .768. Bore restrictions: left – .044, right – .039. Wall thickness: left – .042, right – .049. Drop at heel: 2-5/16”, drop at comb: 1-1/2”. Weight: 11 lbs. 4.48 oz. CONDITION: Fine. Bbls retain most of their custom finish, slightly thin, with a few scattered spots of surface rust with some deeper pitting on orig chamber areas. Rib also has several spots of deep pitting. Receiver is silvered case colors with a beautiful metal patina. The bbl lug that extends through receiver is moderately pitted. Triggerguard is also a gray metal color. Stock has a couple of small chips back of top tang, otherwise wood is sound with light handling & use marks showing moderate wear and retains most of an old professionally restored finish.
