SLEEVED STEPHEN GRANT & SONS HAMMER SIDE BY SIDE SHOTGUN. SN 6222. Cal. 20 ga. 26″ sleeved steel bbls, tapered concave rib, with sgl brass sighting bead, MOD/FULL chokes, 2-3/4″ chambers, extractors & dbl triggers. Writing on top rib of bbl has been partially wiped out, but “STEPHEN GRANT” can be clearly seen. Bbl flats have been re-proofed and marked “.615, 2-3/4″, 3-1/4 TON PER SQUARE INCH SLEEVED”. The small back action, rnd frame receiver is engraved with delicate foliate scroll that has been softened from polishing, both locks are marked “STEPHEN GRANT & SONS”. Mounted with nicely figured walnut, checkered rnd knob pistol grip, checkered butt with heel and toe plate, blank gold oval, checkered splinter forend with push-tip release. Bore diameter: left -.615, right -.615. Bore restrictions: left -.030, right -.012. Wall thickness: left -.034, right -.046. Drop at heel: 2-11/16″, drop at comb: 1-3/8″. Weight: 5lbs. 7oz. LOP 14-1/4″. Gun is accompanied with an old canvas luggage case with red felt interior and a James MacNaughton Label. CONDITION: Fine as restored. The sleeve bbls retain nearly all of their fine blue finish with a few minor nicks & scratches. Bbls are perfectly tight on frame with no wiggle without forend attached. Frame is a polished silver that has thinned the orig engraving. Trigger guard has a restored blue, polishing has washed the engraving. Stock is sound with small sliver missing on top of left lock plate, well fitting, nicely re-pointed checkering, some minor darkening from oil at buttplate, a few minor handling marks and retains a fine restored finish. Forend is sound with nicely re-pointed checkering, a few minor handing marks and retains its fine restored finish. Mechanics are crisp with re-bounding hammers and bright shiny bores. Case is sound with considerable scuffing to exterior, and numerous small pieces of interior missing, dividers are all intact. Lid is embossed “W.E.M.” 4-39926 BDT116 (3,000-7,000)
