CHARLES DALY DIAMOND QUALITY DAMASCUS DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 3749. Spectacular boxlock Daly with orig 31” (uncut) extra fine Damascus bbls choked MOD/MOD with tapered, concave, hand matted rib, sgl ivory bead, doll’s head rib extension, dbl underbites, extractor & dbl triggers. Mounted with extremely beautiful, streaky, honey & chocolate, French or circassian walnut with checkered horn tip insert, semi-schnable, splinter forearm and Prince of Wales, round knob buttstock with horn grip cap & checkered, raised, teardrop side panels, 14-1/4” over a beautifully checkered, horn buttplate. Bottom of stock has a silver initial oval engraved “ALEX. WHITE / CHICAGO”. Receiver is boxlock with dbl scalloped back edge. Receiver and appended metal are very beautifully engraved with two vignettes on bottom of a standing raebuck and two wolves in detailed background scenes and two ducks in a marsh scene on trigger bow, all surrounded by about 90% coverage, extremely fine, very well executed foliate arabesque patterns. It has maker’s name in a fine ribbon on each side. Fences have relief carved scallops around front edges with raised reinforced areas on sides of receiver. It has cocked indicators and “SAFE” in gold. Accompanied by a certificate for being the Gold Medal Winner in the Vintage European Boxlock Class at the Gold Medal Concours d’Elegance of Fine Guns, Sept. 2003. Bore diameter: left – .713, right – .713. Bore restrictions: left – .014, right – .014. Wall thickness: left – .048, right – .049. Drop at heel: 3-1/4”, drop at comb: 1-3/4”. Weight: 8 lbs. 13.44 oz. CONDITION: Very fine to extremely fine. Bbls retain virtually all of their orig Damascus pattern showing light to moderate wear with dark brown under forearm, thin light brown elsewhere. Receiver retains 75-80% orig case colors, strong & bright in sheltered areas, fading elsewhere. Trigger guard retains traces of case colors on outside turned mostly silver with faded case colors on inside. Action screws retain most of their orig niter blue. Wood is sound and retains about all of an extremely fine, old restored finish. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bores. 4-31064 JR548 (6,000-10,000)
