STEPHEN GRANT HAMMER PIGEON GUN. SN 4640. Cal. 12 Ga. 3″ Chambers. 31″ Fine Damascus bbls are engraved “Stephen Grant. 67A. St.James’s Street. London.” on elevated flat pigeon rib with feathered device engraved at breech end. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with SN, and initials “HW”. Bbl flats are stamped “Not for Ball” and with London black powder proofs (12B) 12 Bore and (15M) 15 Muzzle, denoting chokes. Rounded bar Jones underlever case hardened action has finely filed fences, with SN on water table. “Stephen Grant. London.” is engraved on both sides. Back action peninsula locks have high serpentine hammers. Lockplates are engraved “Stephen Grant”. Action, lockplates, and hammers are engraved with very well executed tight English scroll at about 80% coverage. Top of action is at about 95% coverage. Jones underlever has larger scroll, and is checkered on knob. Scroll engraved trigger guard has SN on tang. Nicely marbled European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-7/8″ over brown “Old English” pad. Checkering is at about 18 LPI with mullered borders. There is a silver oval on toe line engraved with intertwined initials “WPD”. Matching splinter forend has Anson release, and SN on iron. Bore diameter: left -.739, right -.740. Bore restrictions: left -.003, right -.007. Wall thickness: left -.029, right -.028. Drop at heel: 2-5/16″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight: 8 lbs. 8.6 oz, LOP 14-7/8″. CONDITION: Very fine, as refurbished. Bbls retain virtually all of very fine re-brown with excellent definition to pattern. Action and lockplates retain 80-90% of an older re-case color with correct hues, silvering a bit on high edges. Stock retains nearly all of well done rubbed oil finish with a number of minor marks from handling and use. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Bores are very good, bright and shiny, show polishing marks, and a few minor pits that didn’t polish out. Locks are crisp. 4-39353 (7,500-8,500)
