*VERY FINE HOLLAND & HOLLAND ROYAL DELUXE SINGLE TRIGGER SELF-OPENING SIDELOCK EJECTOR LIGHT GAME GUN. SN 40682. Cal.12ga. 2-3/4″ Chambers. 26″ Chopper lump bbls with H&H self opening mechanism. Marked “Holland & Holland” on rt. bbl and “33, Bruton Street, London.” on the left. Plain concave game rib has some relief engraving at breech. Bbl flats show proofs at “.729” and are marked for nitro proof, “2-3/4″” , and “3-1/4 tons”. They also show London proof date for 1984. SN “40682” is on both bbls. The beautiful relief and Bulino engraved, non-selective sgl trigger action shows stylized acanthus leaf relief engraving and a very life-like woodcock flying through woodland, engraved on the bottom.The left lock plate also has relief acanthus engraving with a trio of quail flushing over a barbed wire fence (third is found under the detachable lock lever). “Holland & Holland” is engraved underneath the lock plates. The right lock plate has a pair of pheasants flushing. The fences, top tang, opening lever, and beaded trigger guard also have acanthus relief engraving. Trigger guard has SN “40682” inlaid in gold. The nicely figured and streaked straight grip buttstock measures 15″ over leather covered pad, and features a gold oval with initials “J.G.S.” engraved, drop points and 22 LPI checkering w/mullered borders. The Anson release splinter forend is marked inside with SN and has nicely matching wood and checkering. Bore diameter: left -.726, right -.727. Bore restrictions: left -.010, right -.008. Wall thickness: left -.035, right -.034. Drop at heel:2-1/4″ , drop at comb:1-1/2″ . Weight:6lbs 8oz. PROVENANCE: Copy of H&H ledger page. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbls retain 95-98% orig blue, thinning a bit toward the breech with small scratches near the forend take down button and under forend. There are a few marks on bottom of locking lugs. Action retains almost all of its original coin finish. Action is tight and on face. Ejectors in time. Non-selective sgl trigger works fine. Wood shows most of orig finish with some wear to high points, and a few marks from handling and use; checkering is slightly worn. 4-35037 MGM4 (35,000-45,000)
