SCARCE PARKER DH GRADE DAMASCUS DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 85864. Built on a #2 frame with 30″ Damascus steel bbls with matted rib, sgl bead, doll’s head extension, extractors & dbl triggers. Receiver is engraved in typical “D” patterns with vignettes of a pointer on point on the left side, a setter on point on the right side and four partridge on the floorplate surrounded by zigzag border & about 50% coverage foliate arabesque patterns. Maker’s name is in a ribbon on each side. Wood is beautifully grained, light colored American walnut with checkered splinter forearm & rnd knob, semi-pistol grip stock with teardrop side panels, 14-3/8″ over a skeleton buttplate with checkered center. Accompanied by a Parker letter identifying this shotgun as having been shipped on March 30, 1897 to the W.S. Brown Co. of Pittsburgh, PA at a price of $100.00. Drop at the heel 2-5/8″, drop at the comb 1-1/2″. Weight: 7 lbs. 14.5 oz. CONDITION: Very fine plus. Bbls retain 96-97% strong orig brown Damascus pattern with slight muzzle edge wear & a minor nick or two. Receiver retains 75-80% orig case colors, bright in the sheltered areas, thinning & turning silver elsewhere. Wood is sound with usual light handling & use marks and retains most of its orig factory varnish on the stock. Forearm retains most of a restored finish. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore with some slight orange peel in the left bbl. 5-60419 JR631 (5,000-10,000)
