CASED PAIR OF WILLIAM POWELL & SON DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUNS. Cal. 12 ga. SN 12755 & 12756. Beautiful pair of bird guns with 29” bbls choked IMP-CYL/IMP-CYL in gun #1. Gun #2 is choked MOD/IMP-CYL. They have smooth, tapered, concave ribs with sgl bead, doll’s head rib extension and third bite with double chopper lumps, ejectors & dbl triggers. Ribs are marked with maker’s name & address and the numbers “1” and “2” in gold on rib extension with corresponding gold numbers on opening levers and forend tips. Mounted with very highly figured French walnut with checkered splinter forearms and straight grip stocks with teardrop side panels, 14-1/4” over checkered horn buttplates. Each stock has a gold initial oval engraved “R.D.A.” The receivers & lockplates are bright metal with fine border decorations and light foliate arabesque patterns, appear to have been cleaned. Accompanied by what appears to be its orig, red felt lined, leather trunk case with brass reinforcing corners, embossed on lid “G.B.H.W. / 21ST LANCERS”. It is compartmented in bottom for both shotguns and various tools which are missing. It has maker’s label and a loading data sheet inside lid. GUN #1: Bore diameter: left – .732, right – .734. Bore restrictions: left – .009, right – .010. Wall thickness: left – .026, right – .027. Drop at heel: 2”, drop at comb: 1-1/2”. Weight: 6 lbs. 10.56 oz. GUN #2: Bore diameter: left – .732, right – .733. Bore restrictions: left – .018, right – .010. Wall thickness: left – .026, right – .025. Drop at heel: 2”, drop at comb: 1-1/2”. Weight: 6 lbs. 8.64 oz. CONDITION: Very fine. Both shotguns retain most of a fine restored finish on bbls with cleaned & polished receivers & sideplates and restored triggerguards. Lockplates have some very fine pitting. Wood is sound on both guns and retains about all of a restored finish. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bores that probably have been honed. Case is dark & worn showing moderate to heavy wear with some loose partitions and moderate to heavy mothing. 4-60287 JR69 (8,000-12,000)
