JOHN DICKSON BAR-IN-WOOD TOP LEVER HAMMER GAME GUN. SN 4389. Cal. 12 Ga. 2-1/2″ Chambers. 28″ Dovetailed bbls are engraved “John Dickson & Son 63 Princes Street. Edinburgh” on concave game rib with doll’s head extension, and pivoting bite third fastener. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with Birmingham nitro proofs. Bbl flats are stamped with London black powder and Birmingham nitro proofs for 2-1/2″ chambers, SN, “J.D.& S”, and “SLEEVED”. Bar-in-Wood top lever action with third fastener as part of lever, has interestingly filed high fences. Bar locks have serpentine hammers. Action and lockplates have nearly full coverage of very finely cut small shaded scroll. “John Dickson & Son” is in serpentine riband on each lock. Engraving on hammers does not match locks. Finely fiddle figured and nicely streaked Circassian walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-3/8″ over thin checkered horn buttplate, and features vacant gold oval on toe line, drop points, and 18 LPI checkering with mullered borders. Matching splinter forend has Anson release, and SN stamped on iron. Bore diameter: left -.729, right -.730. Bore restrictions: left -.040, right -.003. Wall thickness: left -.031, right -.028. Drop at heel: 2-1/8″, drop at comb: 1-5/8″. Weight: 6 lbs. 8 oz, LOP 14-3/8″. CONDITION: Very good, as refurbished. Bbls retain nearly all of their black, with engraving heavily washed, and edges slightly rounded. Action and lockplates are coin finished. Top lever, hammers, and trigger guard are hot immersion blued with thumbpieces of hammers and top lever slightly silvered, as is grip area of trigger guard. Stock retains nearly all of a rubbed oil finish. Wood is slightly under metal. Checkering has been re-cut and is sharp. Repaired break through wrist shows slight movement when flexed. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Locks are crisp. Bores are excellent, bright and shiny. 4-39355 (5,500-8,500)
