*FINE JAMES PURDEY SELF-OPENING SIDELOCK EJECTOR ROUND ACTION SHOTGUN WITH CASE. SN 19035. Cal.10ga. 3″ Chambers. 31″ Chopper lump bbls are marked “1” and “J. Purdey & Sons, Audley House, South Audley Street, London. Made of Sir Joseph Whitworth’s Fluid-Pressed Steel.” on the concave plain game rib. Bbl flats show London nitro proofs for 1-5/8 oz, and are marked “Choke”. Whitworth tube nos. “34991” and “34992” are marked on the loop. The round body rose and scroll engraved action has side clips, Purdey hidden third fastener, dbl triggers (front one articulated), and automatic safety. Lock plates are marked “J. Purdey & Sons”. Bottom of action marked “Purdey’s Patent”. Top lever marked no. “1”. “Safe” is inlaid in gold. The scroll engraved trigger guard is marked with SN “19035” (made in 1907). The straight grip nicely figured Circassian walnut buttstock measures 14-1/2″ over a leather covered pad. Buttstock has drop points, vacant silver oval and 28 LPI checkering with mullered borders. The splinter Anson forend is marked no. “1” with matching engraving and checkering. The gun comes in Abercrombie and Fitch marked leather case with red baize interior. Bore diameter: left -.776, right -.776. Bore restrictions: left -.039, right -.040. Wall thickness: left -.023, right -.028. Drop at heel: 2-1/2″, drop at comb:1-1/8″ . Weight:7lbs 10.24oz. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain 95% very high quality old London re-Black. Extremely fine bores, bright, shiny, with no noticeable flaws. The action is tight, on face,and drop shows little wear. Ejectors are perfectly timed. The action retains 10-20% orig. case color. Lock plates retain 50-70% thinning colors. Trigger guard retains 50% re-black. Top lever 70% orig blue. The stocks show an old hand rubbed oil finish. Buttstock converted from pistol grip to straight grip with end of trigger guard re-shaped. Checkering shows some wear. All screws show some use. Case is in fine condition, all partitions tight and intact. These lovely old 10 bores have a new lease on life with shootable ammo from RST. 4-35190 MGM2 (12,500-17,500)
