RARE CASED COLT MODEL 1851 NAVY WITH SHOULDER STOCK. Cal. 36. SN 100969. Blue & case colored with 7-1/2″ oct bbl, Hartford address, dovetail front sight, 4-screw frame, cut for shoulder stock with extended stock lug screws. It has rare iron back strap with brass trigger guard and a sling loop in front of the trigger guard. It is accompanied by its original canteen shoulder stock that has nickeled brass furniture with the serial numbers “100969” & “100970” on the lower tang and buttplate tang. The left wrist has two cartouches, one horizontal with the initials “RPB” and the other vertical which is illegible. It has the original nickeled brass canteen cap attached with a small chain by a screw to the right wrist. Accompanied by an oak single casing, 19-1/8″ long x 10-3/4″ wide x 2-11/16″ deep. It has brass hinges and a mortised lock in the front with a brass escutcheon plate. The interior is lined with brown velvet and the bottom is compartmented for the revolver and the stock with spaces for flask, mold & another large compartment. The casing was likely added after the fact, given that these revolvers were issued in pairs as is evident by the serial numbers on the stock. CONDITION: The revolver is fine and all matching including the wedge. The bbl retains a light gray/brown patina with a few scattered spots of light rust. The rammer retains traces of case colors and the frame retains 25-30% case colors, mostly faded to light patina, dark on the recoil shields, bright in the sheltered areas. The back strap and butt are a dark gray patina with traces of original silver and light surface spotting on the butt. The trigger guard retains about 30% original silver with the balance a dark untouched patina. The cylinder is a gray/brown patina with scattered light surface etching and retains 60-70% naval battle scene. The grips are sound with a few light scratches in the surface and scrapes and wear from the stock and retain 50-60% original varnish. Mechanics are crisp, strong dark bore. The stock retains 75-80% dull cleaned plating on the yoke and buttplate. The wood stock itself has a hairline on each side at the buttplate with light use & handling marks and retains an old restored oil finish. The case is fine and sound with the exterior retaining most of an old restored finish, the lining is soiled and faded but generally intact, showing light contact point wear. 4-53571 JR890 (7,500-10,000)
