SMALL NEOLITHIC PAINTED POTTERY JAR. Gansu Wangshao Culture, Machang Phase Circa 2000 B.C. Of compressed ovoid form with two strap handles, painted in dark reddish brown, two panels of diamond lozenges and dots on the waisted neck and geometric pattern on the shoulder reserved in the polished red undercoat. SIZE: 4-3/4″ h x 5″ at widest. PROVENANCE: Private collection of Dr. & Mrs. Winfield Gibbs, Sunbury, PA. Purchased from Christies Fine Chinese Ceramics, New York 6/3/88, Lot 122.
