*FRANCOTTE NO. 45 EAGLE GRADE SIDE PLATED BOXLOCK EJECTOR HEAVY GAME GUN. SN 87037. Cal. 12 Bore. 2-3/4″ Chambers. 32″ Chopper lump steel barrels with high concave matted game rib with dolls head and crossbolt extension, are engraved “Von Lengerke & Detmold” and “U. S. Agents New-York” on tops. Bottoms of bbls have Belgian provisional proofs, SN, and choke information. Bbl flats have Belgian nitro proofs for 2-3/4″ chambers, and are stamped “Francotte Choke Bore” and “Siemans Martin Steel” in circular logo with crowned “AF” at center. Case hardened heavy boxlock action with ornamental sideplates, features dolls head and crossbolt third fastener, side clips, automatic safety (S inlaid in gold), and double triggers. Bottoms of lockplates are engraved “A. Francotte Maker & Patentee Liege Belgium”. Action and lockplates have about 70% scroll interspersed with game scene. Right lockplates depicts a pair of snipe at rear, and trio of ducks toward front, both in marsh background. Left lockplates depicts a pair of pheasants at rear, and covey of quail toward front, in upland background. Fences have relief acanthus treatment with scroll background. Scroll engraved floorplate has two tone gold inlaid heraldic American eagle. Top lever and trigger guard are scroll engraved, with vignette of stork on trigger guard bow, and SN at tang. Dense, streaky European walnut pistol grip buttstock measures 14-3/8″ over leather-faced “Hawkins” pad, and features vacant gold oval, horn grip cap, and 24 LPI flattop point pattern checkering with line border. Matching splinter forend has Anson release, and SN on iron. Bore diameter: left -.727, right -.727. Bore restrictions: left -.029, right -.028. Wall thickness: left -.032, right -.035. Drop at heel: 2-5/8″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight: 8 lbs. 1 oz, LOP 14-3/8″. CONDITION: Excellent, near new. Bbls retain 97-98% original lustrous blue, thinning very slightly on edges of rib, and at muzzles. Action and lockplates retain nearly all of their original case color, silvering slightly on sharp edges, bottom of action, and on fences. Top lever and trigger guard retain nearly all of their original blue, again with slight silvering. Triggers retain nearly all of their case color. Stock has 98% of its rubbed oil finish with a few minor marks, and thinning a bit around grip. Checkering is clean, and shows very little wear. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are in time. Bores are excellent, bright and shiny, with a few barely noticeable striations.
