RARE GENUINE ELMER CROWELL ANTIQUE CARVED HALF-SIZED MALLARD DECOY. This outstanding half-sized carved and painted decoy was executed by Elmer Crowell of East Harwich, Mass. Crowell is recognized as one of the world’s finest decoy carvers ever. He produced both gunning decoys to be used in marshes and eventually, because of the great demand, began carving decorative decoys and bird carvings that he sold himself directly to sports. Some of which were marketed through such famed sporting houses as Abercrombie & Fitch. Most any Crowell carving in excellent condition will bring multiple thousands of dollars. Currently, the most expensive decoy ever sold in the world was a Crowell carved goose, which brought $684,500. This decoy carries both Elmer Crowell’s oval brand as well as his rectangular brand on the underside. Decoy has slightly turned head and carved design in the tail. SIZE: Approx. 11″ l.
