*WESTLEY RICHARDS HAND DETACHABLE BOXLOCK EJECTOR SINGLE TRIGGER GAME GUN WITH CASE. SN 8417. Cal. 12 Ga. 2-3/4″ Chambers. 28″ Dovetailed steel bbls are engraved “Westley Richards & Co., England.” on narrow concave game rib with doll’s head extension. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with SN, “19503”, and initials “PG”. Bbl flats have Birmingham nitro proofs for 2-3/4″ chambers, and more recent Birmingham re-proof. Scalloped back action with detachable locks has typical Westley Richards pivoting top lever with sliding third fastener, selective single trigger, and automatic safety (“SAFE” inlaid in gold). Action has 80% coverage of medium scroll engraving with “Westley Richards” inlaid in gold on either side. There is a sliding selector switch to the right of the single trigger, with “L” and “R” inlaid in gold. Hand detachable locks are engine turned. Top part of mainspring housing has feather engraving and “R” and “L” are inlaid in gold on the top of each lock, respectively. Sides of lockplates are stamped with “Westley Richards” and patent information, in ovals. Patent use no. “3410” is stamped in oval on left lock. Locks are retained by removable blued floorplate, which has full coverage of scroll engraving. Trigger guard has scroll, and SN at grip. Very finely marbled European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 15″ over checkered wood butt, with silver oval on toe line, and 20 LPI flattop point pattern checkering with mullered borders. Matching splinter forend has horn tip and Deeley release. Bore diameter: left -.728, right -.729. Bore restrictions: left -.034, right -.011. Wall thickness: left -.032, right -.036. Drop at heel: 2-1/8″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight: 6 lbs. 9.6 oz, LOP 15″. Modern plastic case has red foam interior, and contains 3-pc beech BGI type cleaning rod, ebony handled turn screw, and a walnut handled turn screw. CONDITION: Excellent, as completely refurbished. Bbls retain virtually all of a good quality re-black. Edges and lettering remain sharp. Action is coin finished. Floorplate, trigger guard, top lever, and safety button are re-blued, and retain virtually all of that blue. Trigger guard is two-tone, purple toward tail. Nicely shaped and checkered newly made stocks are excellent, with a few minor scrapes and scratches from handling. Buttstock wood shows some compression from recoil at head of stock on right side, where it contacts scalloped portion of action. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Trigger works.
