*JOSEPH LANG AND SON BOXLOCK EJECTOR HEAVY GAME GUN WITH CASE. SN 20786. (ca. 1967) Cal. 12 bore. 3″ Chambers. 28″ Dovetailed bbls with narrow concave game rib are engraved “Joseph Lang & Son.” “7. Bury Street, St. James’s, London, England.” on tops. Bottom of left bbl is engraved with SN. Bbl flats have London nitro proofs marked “3” Magnum 4 Tons”. Case hardened boxlock action with scalloped back features double triggers and automatic safety with “SAFE” inlaid in gold. Action has 60% coverage of well executed typical English scroll. “Joseph Lang & Son” is in arched riband on both sides of action. Blued floorplate is scroll engraved with “Joseph Lang & Son” in riband. Dark semi-pistol grip feather crotch to fiddle figured European walnut buttstock measures 15-3/16″ over Silvers type pad. Gold oval on toe line is engraved “F. M. W.” in old English letters. Stocks feature 20 LPI flattop point pattern checkering with mullered borders, and nicely shaped drop points. Matching splinter forend has Anson release. Bore diameter: left -.730, right -.735. Bore restrictions: left -.008, right -.000. Wall thickness: left -.037, right -.037. Drop at heel: 2-1/8″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight: 7 lbs. 5 oz, LOP 15-3/16″. Makers leather toe under case with leather corners is embossed in old English letters “F. M. W.” on lid. Interior is lined with maroon cloth with green leather Atkin, Grant, and Lang label. Accessories include 2-pc wooden cleaning rod, cleaning brushes and mops, and a pair of Atkin, Grant, and Lang marked snap caps, as well as, 2 keys. CONDITION: Excellent. Bbls retain 95-98% original lustrous blue with a few marks from handling, and one or two dots of pitting. Action retains 85-90% original case color, silvering slightly on bottom, fences and beads. Top lever, floorplate and trigger guard retain most all of their original blue. Top lever is silvered slightly at thumbpiece. Trigger guard is thinning at grip. Floorplate screw shows use, all other screws are excellent. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are very slightly out of time. Bores are excellent, bright and shiny, with no visible imperfections, but with some leading in front of chambers. Case leather is very fine with a few minor scuffs. Straps are very good. Handle is getting a little tired. Interior cloth is very fine, as are label and accessories. A very clean heavy proof gun. 4-39157 MGM14 (3,000-5,000)
