EARLY UNIQUE KUBICHEK DAMASCUS DBL BBL HAMMER SHOTGUN. Cal. 14 ga. NSN. Very unusual American made shotgun by Kubichek of Iowa City, Iowa created in German or Austrian style. It has 26-3/4″ beautifully patterned Damascus bbls with raised flat rib having single bead and doll’s head extension with extractors and one lug on the bottom. It is built on a delicate small size action with heavy reinforcements on the sides. It has beautifully scalloped firing pin shields, rebounding firing pins and delicate curved rebounding hammers on back action locks. The action is unusual in that the forearm is attached to the receiver at the hinge pin and the bbls are dismounted by means of a small lever at the forearm tip. The trigger guard is very ornate steel with the front half articulated as the opening lever. The lower tang, behind the trigger guard is carved wood to form a finger grip. The stock is very nicely figured walnut with checkered straight grip, 13-3/8″ over a beautiful fleur-de-lis skeleton buttplate with checkered panels. This shotgun is completely unmarked with no proofs or serial numbers. A most unusual and interesting item for the Damascus and hammer shotgun collector. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain a medium brown patina with most of their orig pattern showing including the fine patterns on the top and bottom ribs. Receiver and lockplates are a smooth silver blue/brown patina. Forearm is dark and oil stained with two or three small bruises, otherwise shows light to moderate wear. Stock is sound and retains about 92-93% of its orig piano style varnish. Wooden lower tang/grip is sound but appears to have had a small tang removed during the period of use. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bores. 4-53752 JR37 (2,500-4,000)
