WWII USAAF GROUP BELONGING TO A TUSKEGEE AIRMAN (NAVIGATOR – BOMBADIER) GROUP CONSISTING OF THE FOLLOWING: CHOCOLATE BROWN GABARDINE 4-POCKET OFFICERS TUNIC, TYPE B-1 LEATHER FLYING JACKET, 3 TRAINING MANUALS AND A BINDER OF ORIGINAL GENERAL ORDERS, RESTRICTED TRAINING INSTRUCTIONS, PHOTOGRAPHS & EPHEMERA RELATING TO THE TUSKEGEE AIRMAN.

WWII USAAF GROUP BELONGING TO A TUSKEGEE AIRMAN (NAVIGATOR – BOMBADIER) GROUP CONSISTING OF THE FOLLOWING: CHOCOLATE BROWN GABARDINE 4-POCKET OFFICERS TUNIC, TYPE B-1 LEATHER FLYING JACKET, 3 TRAINING MANUALS AND A BINDER OF ORIGINAL GENERAL ORDERS, RESTRICTED TRAINING INSTRUCTIONS, PHOTOGRAPHS & EPHEMERA RELATING TO THE TUSKEGEE AIRMAN. This is a large and extremely rare grouping relating to one of the original Tuskegee Airmen Lt. Everett Emerson Richardson. The Tuskegee Airmen were part of a “Noble Experiment”. A “separate but equal base for Black Americans wishing to serve in the Air Corps”. Lt. Richardson was part of this group. 1) The four-pocket tunic was tailored by Hamilton of Cincinnati and retains all of its original insignia, Air Corp collar insignia, Navigator’s Wings, ribbon bar, Captain’s rank and insignia and an Air Force patch in silver embroidery. CONDITION: Excellent overall with no mothing evident. 2) The D-1 leather jacket was made by “The Western Lea. Clot. Co.” in a large size. Richardson’s leather name tags on the left breast. CONDITION: Fair overall with one pocket zipper broken. There are several sewing repairs to the jacket and a small hole in one of the shoulders. 3) Training manuals relate to air navigation tables, weather for aircraft trainees, instrument flying instruction, bombardier training along with the 4) three ring binder containing original orders, documents, original promotion letters, etc. and information regarding Tuskegee Airmen National Association. Also included is a class book, 1945 Goodman Field, KY including photo of Richardson in flight, 617th Bombardment Squadron, plus other period photos of him in flight gear. There is also a carton full of materials including orders, personal photographs, etc., including materials relating to Gen. Daniel “Chappie” James. Comprehensive documentation of this Tuskegee airman. Also included are newspaper articles regarding the airmen and an invitation for a reception to meet 4-star General Daniel James Jr. Additionally a number of original photographs of Richardson’s lady friends, a picture of Richardson and a lady in the Club Riviera in St. Louis and an original snapshot photo of Nat King Cole. CONDITION: Photos are generally fine with a few turned sepia tone, one is hand colored. Manuals show evidence of damp storage. All items in binder are fine. 4-49364 (5,000-7,500)
