BRONZE BUST OF JUPITER. Circa 1st/2nd Century A.D. Cast in one piece with a rectangular pedestal, his head is slightly turned to the left, a cloak falling from his left shoulder, the face with thick wavy beard, drilled pupils, and long engraved hair bound in a fillet, a dotted festoon flanked by sheaths of wheat engraved on the front of the pedestal; brownish-black patina. SIZE: 5″ h x 4-1/4″ w x 2-1/4″ d. PROVENANCE: Private collection of Dr. & Mrs. Winfield Gibbs, Sunbury, PA. Purchased from Sotheby’s Antiquities & Islamic Works of Art, New York 6/15/88.
