ATTRIBUTED TO VIVIAN FORSYTHE PORTER (American, 1888-1982) “THE DANIEL WEBSTER”. Oil on canvas nautical scene shows a three-mast ship in half sail sailing left to right in rough seas. Signed lower right “T. Bailey” but having an old typed and written attribution on reverse. It is known that paintings signed by ” T. Bailey” were probably done by a trio of artist’s who resided together in Winthrop, MA. The ship portrayed here was built in 1858 and lost at the Cape of Good Hope. Housed in a decorative frame with linen and silver liner. SIZE: 22″ x 28″. PROVENANCE: Collection of Elwyn Dearborn, Medford, NJ & Portland, ME. CONDITION: Very good. 9-96273 (300-500)
