SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1865 OR FIRST ALLEN CONVERSION RIFLE. Cal. 58. NSN. 36-1/2” rnd bbl. Lockplate is dated 1865. There is an “ESA” cartouche on left side of stock, but it is not completely readable. CONDITION: Traces of casehardening colors on lock and hammer, otherwise gray to brown patina with light surface rust and pitting. Wood has two short cracks at rear of lockplate, otherwise normal dents and scratches. Mechanically good. Bore is good. Edwards Collection 4-58450 (1,500-3,000)
