FIELD/SLAVE CRADLE. Full sized counterpart to previous lot. Similar in construction, having canoe shaped cradle suspended from bent wood frame with two cast iron wheels at one end, and hook handle at opposite end. Manufactured by the Marietta Chair Co. of Marietta, Ohio or the Ford and Johnson Chair Co. of Michigan City, Indiana c. 1876-1886. Purported to have been used by field workers so their infants could accompany them. One of these cradles is currently on display at the Museum of Florida History as well as the Museum of African American History. SIZE: 49-1/2” l x 26” h x 24” w. CONDITION: One replaced slat, otherwise very good to near excellent.
