PETER VINCENT (American, 1946-) “DORY MATES 7”. Outstanding oil on board fishing scene shows two weathered experienced fishermen in a dory fishing for halibut. A large halibut is on the line and a gaff is being readied. The dory is numbered “7” and a keg made buoy is marked “7”. The sea is calm and reflects the pastel blue and pink sky. Signed lower right. Housed in a weathered wood frame with linen and weathered wood liner. On the reverse is a Mystic Seaport label with artist and title. Peter Vincent has lived and worked in Rockport since 1955 and is one of New England’s most highly regarded contemporary marine painters. He received artistic training at the New England School of Art, the School of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and the DeCordova Museum School. During the early 1970s, Vincent focused on printing, producing etchings and lithographs. During the 1980s, he turned his attention to painting and since that time has received numerous awards including Mystic Seaport Museum’s first annual Thomas Hoyne Award. SIZE: 25″ x 38″.
