*WILLIAM CASHMORE BEST SIDELOCK EJECTOR GAME GUN WITH CASE. SN 17459. Cal. 12 Ga. 2-3/4″ Chambers. 28″ Dovetailed steel bbls are engraved “Wm. Cashmore. Maker. Birmingham” on narrow concave game rib with square crossbolt extension. Bottom of right bbl is stamped with SN. Bbl flats show Birmingham nitro proofs for 1-1/4 oz. (2-3/4″ chambers). Sidelock action is stocked to the fences, and features Scott style square crossbolt, side clips, engraved arrow tumbler end cocking indicators, double triggers, and automatic safety (“S” is inlaid in gold). Action and lockplates are engraved with approx. 80% coverage of very well executed tight scroll. “Wm. Cashmore” is engraved on both lockplates. Trigger guard extends to hard rubber grip cap, and is scroll engraved with SN on grip. Nicely marbled and lightly figured European walnut pistol grip buttstock measures 14-3/4″ over Silvers type pad, and features drop points and 22 LPI point pattern checkering. There is a silver shield crest plate at heel. Matching splinter forend has an Anson release. Bore diameter: left -.730, right -.729. Bore restrictions: left -.035, right -.005. Wall thickness: left -.028, right -.028. Drop at heel: 2-7/8″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight: 6 lbs. 9 oz, LOP 14-3/4″. Oak and leather case has brass corners. Rectangular brass plate on lid is engraved “A. Cochrane” “Boston, Mass” “U.S.A.” There are remains of an old Cunard shipping label picturing the Aquitania. Interior is lined in green cloth with Cashmore label. CONDITION: Very fine as partially refinished. Bbls retain virtually all of a high quality satin rust blue with thumbnail size area of light pitting 4″ back from muzzles on bottom of right bbl. Engraving is slightly washed. Action retains 5-10% muted case color under fences, and has mostly silvered to gray. Lockplates retain a considerable amount of their original case color, that has muted over time. Stocks retain most of an oil finish, with numerous handling marks and dings under that finish, some of which are fairly deep. Checkering is slightly worn and dirty, and has not been re-cut. Recoil pad is new. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are in time. Bores are fine, bright and shiny, with a few minor small pits, and evidence of a few dents having been removed. Case leather is stained, dry, with numerous marks and scuffs. Straps are older replacements in good condition. Original handle is still intact, but very tender. Interior cloth appears to be good with some areas of re-lining. Label is new reproduction. This is a nicely balanced, fast handling, original heavy proof game gun. 4-39197 MGM19 (6,000-8,000)
