*J. P. SAUER & SOHN SIDE LOCK DRILLING MADE FOR AMERICAN MARKET. SN 220936. Cal. 12ga/ 12ga/ 30-30. 2-1/2″ Chambers. Double triggers (front set). Side safety. 27-5/8″ Bbls (unusually long) are marked “J.P. Sauer & Sohn, Suhl” and “Krupp Essen” w/ decorative bands at breeches. Flat matted top rib has two folding rifle sights for 80 and 175 yards, and a longitudinally dove-tailed silver front bead, and is engraved w/ caliber “30 W. 94.” Bottoms of bbls have German nitro proofs, SN “220936” and Sauer warrior logo on front lump. Sling loop is soldered to bottom of rifle bbl. Top lever action has double under lugs, bushed strikers, side clips, and Greener cross bolt third fastener w/ rifle cocking indicator on top tang and rifle/ shotgun selector switch marked “Schrot” and “Kugel”. Back action side locks have raised rib cocking indicators on tumbler ends. Action is nicely engraved w/ well executed scroll and fences are nicely filed in serpentine manner. Left lock plate has very well engraved scene of a roebuck and doe running through a clearing. Right side lock depicts fox contemplating what to do w/ a landing duck. Trigger guard has scroll engraving on bow and SN on grip. Plain European walnut pistol grip buttstock measures 14″ over a ribbed horn butt plate, 30 LPI checkering w/ double line border, steel grip cap, and sling loop on toe line. Schnabel tipped splinter forend has Deeley fastener w/ wood and checkering to match buttstock. Bore diameter: left -.713, right -.713. Bore restrictions: left -.037, right -.028. Wall thickness: left -.034, right -.029. Drop at heel: 2-3/8″, drop at comb: 1-5/8″. Weight: 7 lbs 14oz. CONDITION: Very good. Bbls retain 80-90% blue, thinning toward breeches w/ numerous slight scratches on left side of bbls toward breech. Shotgun bores are very fine w/ area where dent has been raised 3-1/2″ behind muzzle on left bbls, and minor soft dent 6-1/2″ from muzzle on right. Rifle bore is fine, bright, shiny, w/ hint of frosting at breech. Action has 10-20% case colors in protected areas, balance fading to a very pleasing silver. Trigger guard, top lever, and grip cap show most of their orig blue, silvering at edges, thumb piece, and grip. Buttstock appears to have orig surface w/ some shellac added. Checkering shows wear, most evident on bottom and left side of forend. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Sauer side lock drillings have the reputation of being some of the finest ever produced. 4-35567 MGM61 (5,000-8,000)
