ARMY AND NAVY CSL BOXLOCK DOUBLE RIFLE. SN 13081. (ca. 1895) Cal. .500 BPE. 26″ Steel dovetailed barrels with wide flat full length file cut rib with doll’s head extension, are engraved “Army & Navy. C. S. L London” on tops. Rear express sight is dovetailed through rib, and has one standing, one folding platinum lined leaves, marked for 100 and 200 yards. Small platinum bead front sight is longitudinally dovetailed into end of rib. Bbls have 7 groove Enfield type rifling. Bbl flats are stamped with London proofs for .500 Express, and SN. There is another set of eastern European proofs? (ZB.54.06). Screw grip Webley boxlock action features non-automatic safety, bushed strikers. and intercepting safety sears. Action is engraved with about 60% coverage of nicely cut shaded English scroll, surrounding “Army & Navy C. S. L. Case. 3-1/4. Powder. 142. Grs. Bullet. 440. Grs.” which appears on both sides of action. Top lever pivot is engraved “Patent”. Blued floorplate, trigger guard and top lever are scroll engraved. SN is on trigger guard tang which extends to engraved steel grip cap. Nicely marbled European walnut full pistol grip buttstock measures 14-3/4″ over “London Guns” red pad, and features right hand shadow line cheekpiece, drop points, checkered side panels, and 20 LPI flat top checkering with mullered borders. Matching splinter forend attaches to bbl with pivoting front lever. Drop at heel: 2-3/4″, drop at comb: 1-3/4″. Weight: 10 lbs. LOP 14-3/4″. Rifle comes with nice quality 3/4″ wide embossed leather sling. CONDITION: Excellent, as completely refurbished. Bbls retain virtually all of a fine quality satin rust blue, with some discoloration around rear sight. Engraving on bbls has been re-cut. Action retains 80-90% of pleasingly colored re-case hardening with edges silvering. Floorplate, top lever, and trigger guard retain most of their re-blue. Rifle has been re-stocked in a faithful reproduction of a Webley style stock, and shows fine workmanship. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Bores have strong rifling, but grooves are frosted throughout. Sling is excellent. This rifle should make a great shooter. 4-40189 MGM19 (6,000-8,000)
