*VERY UNUSUAL W. W. GREENER L80 SIDELOCK EJECTOR SINGLE TRIGGER GAME GUN. SN 61949. (Ca. 1912) Cal. 20 Ga. 2-1/2″ Chambers. 28″ Dovetailed steel bbls are engraved “W. W. Greener. Maker. 29. Pall Mall. London. S.W. Works St Mary’s Square. Birmingham.” in unmatted portion of narrow matted game rib. Breech ends of bbls have 5/8″ triangles of scroll engraving. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with SN, provisional proofs, initials “GY”, and “Trade (elephant logo) Mark”. Bbl flats have Birmingham nitro proofs for 2-1/2″ chambers. Sidelock action features automatic safety (“SAFE” inlaid in gold), gold line tumbler end cocking indicators, and single selective trigger, with selector button on right side of trigger in Westley Richards fashion. “L” and “R” are stamped into floorplate. Action and lockplates have 80% coverage of scroll engraving surrounding scenes of dogs and game. Right lockplate depicts a spaniel at rear flushing ducks. Left lockplate shows a pointer flushing what appear to be quail. Bottom of action depicts three on-coming grouse, with single standing grouse on trigger plate. This engraving matches that shown for this particular grade of gun in a Von Lengkerke & Detmold Inc. catalog of 1927. Trigger guard has small bow to accommodate single trigger, with scroll engraving on bow, and SN on grip. Very nicely marbled and figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-7/8″ over checkered wood butt with Purdey bump, and features drop points and 24 LPI standard point pattern checkering with mullered borders. Matching splinter forend has horn tip, Deeley fastener, and SN stamped on iron. Bore diameter: left -.621, right -.622. Bore restrictions: left -.016, right -.009. Wall thickness: left -.037, right -.037. Drop at heel: 2-7/16″, drop at comb: 1-9/16″. Weight: 5 lbs. 14 oz, LOP 14-7/8″. CONDITION: Excellent, as refurbished. Bbls retain virtually all of London quality re-black with a few minor handling nicks and dings. Engraving is washed. Action retains nearly all of re-case color hardening. Engraving has softened in polishing. Buttstock is a London quality replacement. Original forend wood has been refinished, and checkering has been re-cut. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are in time. Trigger works well. Bores are excellent, bright and shiny. All Greener sidelock guns are very scarce, a 20 bore example is quite unusual. 4-39483 MGM40 (10,000-15,000)
