*WINCHESTER MODEL 1892 SPECIAL ORDER RIFLE. Cal. 38 WCF (38-40). SN 289089. Special order standard grade rifle with 24” rnd bbl, full magazine, about 2X wood, with straight stock and special order nickel-plated Swiss buttplate. The bbl is mounted with a Beech’s front sight with ivory bead, a blank in the rear seat and a Lyman tang sight. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum yellow sheet identifying this rifle, including all the sights and Swiss buttplate, as being shipped 11.24.1905. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl & magazine tube retain 93-95% original blue, thin and turning plum in a couple of areas with 2 or 3 small spots of pitting on the bbl. Receiver retains about 90% thin blue with a spot or two of light pitting. Lever retains 15-20% fading case colors with the balance silver and the hammer about 75% colors. Buttplate retains 15-20% nickel plating with the balance a mellow patina. Beautiful wood retains about 90% strong original varnish that may have been touched up. Bright shiny bore.
