*EXQUISITE MATCHED PAIR OF DAVID MCKAY BROWN ROUND ACTION OVER-UNDER SINGLE TRIGGER, SIDELOCK, EJECTOR GAME GUNS WITH CASE. SN 7598 / 7599. Cal. 20 Ga. 2-3/4″ Chambers. 29″ Barrels with narrow, flat, solid, matted game ribs are engraved “David McKay Brown (Gunmaker) Ltd. Bothwell. Scotland.” on left side of tops. Bottom bbl flats are stamped with SN and 1996 London nitro proofs for 70 mm chambers at 950 bar. Nos. “1” and “2” are inlaid in gold in unmatted portion of ribs at rear. Svelte actions with Dickson type trigger plate lock mechanisms have very finely filed bolsters around top fences, and feature automatic safeties (SAFE inlaid in gold) and single non-selective triggers. Actions are beautifully engraved with nearly full coverage of medium interlocking open shaded scroll with vignettes of game birds on bottoms of actions. Gun no. “1” portrays a pheasant flushing to the left over a meadow. Gun no. “2” shows a chukka flushing toward the right, over a similar meadow. Bottoms of actions also have “David McKay Brown” inlaid in gold on ribands. Top levers are scroll engraved with nos. “1” and “2” gold inlaid in each gun, respectively. Small bow trigger guards are scroll engraved, with SNs inlaid in gold on tangs. Although this set of guns is a matched pair the character of the stocks is somewhat different, with gun no. “1” having lightly marbled and nicely flame figured European walnut. Gun no. “2” is heavily marbled in dark bands with slight figure. Stocks measure 14″ over thin black “Decelerator” pads, have vacant gold ovals on toe line, and 18 LPI standard point pattern checkering with mullered borders. Matching one piece forends have Anson releases with nos. “1” and “2” in gold on engraved steel tips, respectively. SNs are engraved on irons. Just by gazing into the forend iron recess, or into the action bar, you realize the incredible craftsmanship that went into the building of this fine pair of guns. All parts and pieces are beautifully hand filed, fitted, and finished to near perfection. Gun no. “1”: Bore diameter: top -.612, bottom -.612. Bore restrictions: top -.006, bottom -.007. Wall thickness: top -.033, bottom -.036. Drop at heel: 2-1/8″, drop at comb: 1-7/16″. Weight: 6 lbs. 8 oz, LOP 14″. Gun no. “2”: Bore diameter: top -.612, bottom -.612. Bore restrictions: top -.007, bottom -.007. Wall thickness: top -.033, bottom -.034. Drop at heel: 2-1/8″, drop at comb: 1-7/16″. Weight: 6 lbs. 6 oz, LOP 14″. Aluminum “Americase” double gun case with hinged divider has black nylon canvas outer cover attached to case with velcro. Interior is lined with black velveteen with black leather gold embossed David McKay Brown label on divider. CONDITION: Excellent. Barrels show nearly all of their original blue, with only slight silvering at muzzles, and a few light handling marks. Both guns show a 1″ area of silvering on top ribs probably from contact with gun rack in shooting brake. Bbl lumps and rear portions of bottom bbls show numerous marks from assembly and dis-assembly. Actions retain nearly all of their case color, silvering at sharp edges, and thinning on action bottoms. Blue on high point of top levers is silvering. Stocks retain virtually all of their hand rubbed oil finish, getting a bit dry, with a few light marks and dings from handling and use. Bores are excellent, bright and shiny, with no visible imperfections. Actions are tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are in time. Forend on gun no. “2” is slightly loose, and needs minor attention. Triggers work well. Case and outer cover are excellent. There is some discoloration of label. A lovely pair of guns, by one of the most highly regarded makers working today. 4-39543 MGM77 (55,000-75,000)
