ARMY AND NAVY HAMMER DOUBLE RIFLE. SN 6240. Cal. 12ga. Non-rebounding locks. 26″ Dovetailed steel bbls are marked “Army & Navy” on left bbl, and “C.S.L. London.” on right. Full length file cut rib w/ dolls head extension has one standing, 3 folding platinum lined express sight, graduated to 250 yds w/ transversally dovetailed newly made front bead. Bbl flats show London black powder proofs for 13 bore. Bottom rib is stamped w/ no. “5335” and has a sling eye. Very nicely scroll engraved action, has Jones under lever. Front action locks are nicely scroll engraved w/ front mounted stalking safeties. Nicely filed serpentine hammers are scroll engraved. Trigger guard/ pistol grip has slight scroll engraving, checkered rear, and SN “6240”(about 1894) engraved in the grip. Nicely figured, slightly marbled, European walnut buttstock measures 14-1/4″ over Silvers pad, features a sling eye, double beaded right hand cheek piece, and 22 LPI checkering w/ mullered borders. Lever release splinter forend has engraving and checkering to match buttstock. Drop at heel: about 2-1/4″, drop at comb: 1-7/8″. Weight: 10 lbs 12oz. PROVENANCE: Dr. Frank Miller Collection. CONDITION: Very good. Bbls retain 95% of good quality re-black. Lettering slightly washed. Few nicks and dings from handling. Action is silver gray. Wood retains 95% of good quality oil refinish. Checkering is re-cut and fairly sharp. Bores are fine, bright and shiny w/ slight frosting toward the breech of right bbl. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Locks are crisp. Firing pins and nipples are slightly battered, and sticky. These old, big bore rifles are not common, and lots of fun to shoot. 4-35627 MGM75 (9,000-12,000)
