SALESMAN SAMPLE FIELD/SLAVE CRADLE. Canoe shaped cradle consisting of numerous wood slats decorated with geometric and floral patterns around inside rim. Printed on base of bed “Ford Johnson & Co., Michigan City, Patent Oct. 17th 76” across slats. Suspended from bent wood frame with two cast iron wheels at one end. Purported to have been used by field workers so their infants could accompany them. SIZE: 26-1/2” l x 15-1/2” h x 12” w. CONDITION: Some roughness and small crack to portion of one slat. Minor chips to finish, otherwise very good to near excellent with great patina.
