ADRIEN-ETIENNE GAUDEZ (French, 1845-1902) “DUO DIFFICILE”. Outstanding large bronze on tall bronze floor stand depicts two boys learning to play a violin and flute. Round base bronze has a decorative cartouche with “Duo Difficile Par A. Gaudez Hors Concours”. Top of the base signed “A. Gaudez” and the scene shows one boy seated on a fancy stool playing a flute and having an open music book on his knee. Another boy holding a violin at shoulder points his bow at the music book and gestures. Top can rotate and is signed on the side “Tiffany & Co.”. Bronze base has upper hub decorated with a berry and leaf vine. Four legs are topped with a profile of a fancy maiden. Animal paw feet on round disks. Decorative stretchers and a central four arm finial at center of base. A wonderful presentation and nice subject matter. PROVENANCE: Estate of Maria M. Viveiros, New Bedford, Massachusetts.
