LOVELY RODDA TOP LEVER REBOUNDING HAMMER DOUBLE RIFLE WITH ORIGINAL CASE. SN 5487. Cal. 360 EXP. Back action locks. 28″ Dovetail steel bbls are engraved “R. B. Rodda & Co. 2, Wellesley Place, Calcutta, & Birmingham.” on flat full length rib w/ file cutting at front and rear. Silver lined rear sight has standing leaf for 100 yds, 2 folding leaves for 200 and 300 yds. Front sight is a longitudinally dovetailed white bead. Bbl flats have Birmingham black powder proofs for “360EX” and “50-190”. Bottoms of bbls are stamped w/ no. 5487. Sling eye is soldered to bottom rib. Case hardened action has double under lugs, well filed fences, and is engraved w/ English closed scroll and naive portraits of game: a stag looking back on left side, and running stag on right, lion on left lock plate, tiger on right lock plate. Lock plates are also engraved “R. B. Rodda & Co”. Short serpentine hammers are scroll engraved. Blued trigger guard has scroll, SN on grip, and “G 29″ hand stamped behind bow. Slightly figured European walnut full pistol grip buttstock measures 15″ over blued steel plain butt plate, featuring shadow line right hand cheek piece, vacant silver oval, sling eye, horn grip cap, and 22 LPI flat top checkering w/ mullered borders. Deeley release splinter forend has steel tip, and checkering to match buttstock. Drop at heel: 2-5/8″, drop at comb: 1-5/8”. Weight: 7 lbs 15oz. Original leather CASE has brass corners, front right is stamped “G 29”. Two paper labels on lid, w/ Indian writing. Interior is lined w/ dark red cloth w/ Rodda label, also w/ Indian writing. Accessories include empty 360 cases, horn handled striker key, William Evans cleaning rag, steel oil bottle, and a key. PROVENANCE: Dr. Frank Miller Collection. CONDITION: Excellent. Bbls retain nearly all orig blue w/ few nicks and scratches. Action and locks retain nearly all orig case hardening and lacquer. Trigger guard, top lever, nearly all their orig blue. Butt plate mostly flaked to about 20% blue w/ some shiny spots toward heel. Stocks retain most all orig varnish finish w/ few handling marks and couple of compressions and gouges on left side of forend checkering. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Bores are excellent w/ one or 2 slight pits in right bbl. Screw slots show some use, especially top lever screw. CASE leather is smooth, darkening slightly w/ few scuffs and marks. Straps and handle are good. Interior shows some moth damage to cloth. Partitions are tight. Label has area rubbed through from contact w/ rifle. Accessories are fine. 4-35626 MGM101 (8,000-12,000)
