RARE H. HOLLAND UNDER LEVER HAMMER “HOWDAH” PISTOL. SN NSN. Cal. .577 Snider. Non-rebounding locks. 7-1/4″ Bbls are marked “H. Holland 98 New Bond St. London” on the flat top rib w/ transversally dove-tailed rear sight and front bead. Bottoms of bbls have British definitive and provisional black powder proofs, and marked “28” and “.577”. Single bite rotary under lever action has British view proofs on water table. Nicely filed fences. 15% Coverage scroll engraving, w/ long top tang. The specially made down-turned side locks have sliding safeties, some light scroll and border engraving w/ “H. Holland” in a scroll flanked riband. The robust flat faced hammers have light scroll engraving. Trigger guard has border engraving. Steel grip cap is lightly engraved and is fitted w/ swiveling sling eye. Grip stock is made of figured wood, has slight flare toward grip cap, as well as 18 LPI wrap around checkering w/ mullered borders. Forend attaches w/ side nail, has inset horn tip, and checkering to match grip. CONDITION: Fine. Bbls retain 95%+ brown w/ bright blue on sights. Bores are very good, sharp rifling, but frosted throughout. Action mostly brown w/ traces of case color in protected areas. Locks and safeties are crisp. Safeties have traces of their fire blue. Most screw slots are good. Under lever screw and hinge pin are slightly buggered. Stocks show original finish. Checkering is in good condition. Couple of moth holes in horn forend tip. Trigger guard shows 40% of its bright blue w/some flaking. Great example of this very scarce pistol by one of the great names in the trade. 4-35608 MGM46 (4,000-6,000)
