RARE CASED COLT MODEL 1883 DAMASCUS DBL BARREL SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 6388. Fine Colt dbl with 28″ chain Damascus bbls, choked IMPCYL/CYL with tapered concave matted ribs, single bead and the makers name and address on top. It has dolls head rib extension, dbl lumps, extractor and dbl triggers. The receiver and appended parts have light border decorations. It is mounted with extra finish Circassian walnut with checkered, black insert, semi-schnable forearm and pistol grip stock with raised side panels 14″ over a Rampant Colt hard rubber buttplate. Accompanied by a very early green felt lined sporting case, probably for another shotgun, which includes a Berdan priming/depriming tool and a small round pewter oil bottle. Drop at heel: 3″, drop at comb: 1-5/8″. Bore restrictions: left – .012, right – .002. Wall thickness: left – .034, right – .036. Bore diameter: left – .720, right – .728. Weight: 7 lb 13.44 oz. CONDITION: Bbls retain 30 – 40% orig brown Damascus pattern with the balance a silver brown Damascus pattern thin over the chambers and forearm. Receiver retains 60 – 65% faded case colors with the balance turned silver. Wood is sound with a missing sliver from the forearm and usual light handling and use marks with a gouge and scratches on the right side of the buttstock and a series of small gouges on the right side panel with the buttstock retaining about 90% strong orig varnish. Forearm is dark and oil stained, showing heavy wear with traces of orig finish. Mechanics are fine. Bright shiny bores with a spot or two of light pitting. Case is well worn with a separated corner and is relined. 4-57625 JR494 (2,000-3,500)
