*SPECTACULAR GOLD ENCRUSTED DANIEL FRASER SIDELOCK EJECTOR BIG GAME DOUBLE RIFLE WITH CASE. SN 5040. Cal..600 Nitro Express. 26″ Chopper lump barrels are inlaid in gold with “Dan’l Fraser” on rear portion of file cut quarter rib, fitted with one standing, three folding gold-line leaf express sight, sighted out to 200 yards. Silver bead front sight is longitudinally dovetailed into rounded ramp, matching quarter rib. “.600 Nitro” is inlaid in gold on tops of both muzzles. Doll’s head rib extension has a third bite. Bbl flats are stamped with 1988 London nitro proofs. Massive, custom-made, back action sidelock, screw-grip third fastener action has long top strap extending over comb, non-automatic safety (“Safe” inlaid in gold), reinforcing bolsters, and double triggers with front trigger hinged. Steel trigger guard tang extends to grip cap in traditional manner. All metal parts are relief engraved with scrolled acanthus with floral “jack-in-the-pulpit” highlights. Scroll engraving is accented by relief gold-wire inlay. This finely executed scroll serves as background for semi-relief gold-inlaid vignettes of big game, with large bull elephant on left side lockplate, and cow with calf on action bar. Right side has a large rhino on lockplate, with cow and calf on action. Bottom of action has a pair of lions engaged in battle, with lioness and two cubs below. Face-on cape buffalo is on trigger guard bow, and pair of Bengal tigers are on grip cap. Gold inlaid python (3″ long) slithers down from the comb on top tang. Sides of bbls have nicely detailed relief engraved vignettes of various plains game in migration across veldt; antelope, wildebeest and zebras on left; giraffes, zebras and elephants on right. This engraving continues onto action fences. Finish has been selectively polished to give these scenes considerable depth. “Dan’l Fraser” is inlaid in gold in ribands on each lock. Engravers initials “D H” (David Hudson ?) are in three-ring logo, the top ring marked with “93”, probably the year of execution of this incredible work. This signature appears on “jack-in-the-pulpit” under top lever thumbpiece. Dark, dense, finely marbled and lightly figured European walnut full pistol grip buttstock measures 14-7/8″ over red Silvers type pad, and features traditional shadow line right hand cheekpiece, drop points, and 20 LPI point pattern checkering with mullered borders. Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release. Drop at heel: Approx. 2-3/8″, drop at comb: Approx. 1-5/8″. Weight: 15 lbs. 14 oz, LOP 14-7/8″. CONDITION: Excellent, near new, appears to be proof fired only. There are some small specks of oxidation near front of quarter rib. Sharp edges of action beads are slightly silvered from handling. There are a few marks and compressions in wood, one fairly deep compression on toe line, and a few scuffs on bottom edge of cheekpiece. A truly exceptional high art piece. 4-40932 MGM146 (120,000-170,000)
