Case hardened action has long guard/ lever which actuates Jones locking system w/ side clips. When action is open a safety is engaged which keeps the triggers from being pulled. Action is engraved w/ beautifully executed shaded rose and scroll, probably done by Purdey house engraver, J. Lucas. Rounded serpentine hammers terminate in stylized dolphins. Trigger guard/ grip is scroll engraved on bow, and is checkered to the rear w/ SN 10461 (1879). Dark, dense slightly figured and streaked European walnut buttstock measures 14-3/8″ over checkered steel butt plate which is engraved w/ “Charge 4 drms N 6 Powder.” and features vacant silver oval, sling eye, double beaded right hand cheek piece, and 22 LPI checkering w/ mullered borders. CONDITION: Very good. Bbls retain 80% orig black w/ area under the forend where navel jelly rubbed on to remove some rust. Metford rifled bores are excellent, sharp, bright and shiny w/ hint of frosting in right breech area of right bbl. Action retains 70% case color, silvering on high edges, and front of trigger guard. Lock plates and hammers retain 80% case color. Guard lever retains about 40% case color. Stocks retain most of orig finish w/ numerous dings and handling marks, and are quite dry. Checkering shows considerable wear, especially in forend where its nearly worn through from carrying. Action is tight and on face. Locks are crisp. Great old rifle and a combination of two of the best in the trade. 4-35624 MGM74 (10,000-12,000)
