Additional Information: The makers have kindly provided that the guns were ordered 6th Nov 1912 as Pair of 12 Bore, Double triggers, 29” barrels, LOP 14 7/8”.

*VERY FINE PAIR OF BOSS BEST QUALITY SIDELOCK EJECTOR GAME GUNS WITH CASE. SN 6251/ 6252. (ca. 1910) Cal. 12 Bore. 29″ Steel chopper lump bbls are engraved “Boss & Co. 13, Dover Street. Piccadilly. London. W.” on narrow concave game ribs which also have nos “1” and “2” inlaid in gold, respectively. Bottoms of bbls have SNs. Bbl flats show London nitro re-proofs for 2-3/4″ chambers in 1984. All bbls are re-proofed at .729. Case hardened actions have very nicely filed fillets and beads, and feature automatic safeties with “SAFE” inlaid in gold, gold line tumbler end cocking indicators, double triggers, and single beaded trigger guards. Lockplates are engraved “Boss & Co.” in ribands. All metal is engraved with finely executed Boss house style rose and scroll. “Boss & Co Patent” is engraved on bottoms of both actions. Even though these are double trigger guns “Boss’s Patent no. 11278” is engraved on trigger plates referring to single trigger patent. Top levers are inlaid in gold with numbers “1” and “2”, respectively. Finely marbled, nicely matched straight grip Circassian walnut buttstocks measure 15″ over checkered wood butts. “GJGB” is engraved on gold ovals on toe line. Stocks also feature 22 LPI checkering with mullered borders and drop points. Matching splinter forends have Anson releases with nos “1” and “2” inlaid in gold on forend tips. Gun no. 1 (6251): Bore diameter: left -.729, right -.729. Bore restrictions: left -.009, right -.006. Wall thickness: left -.026, right -.026. Drop at heel: 2-3/8″, drop at comb: 2-1/2″. Weight: 6 lbs. 11 oz, LOP 15″. Gun no. 2 (6252) Bore diameter: left -.726, right -.729. Bore restrictions: left -.007, right -.006. Wall thickness: left -.031, right -.023. Drop at heel: 2-5/16″, drop at comb: 1-7/16″. Weight: 6 lbs. 10 oz, LOP 15″. Oak and leather makers case has brass corners with push button lock. Initials “G. J. G. B.” are embossed on lid. Interior is lined in burgundy cloth with Boss label, and 2nd label with instructions for single trigger guns. PROVENANCE: Bill of sale dated 1986. Purchased privately in Scotland . Letter of 1991 certifying that they were in the care of Malcolm Borthwick. CONDITION: Excellent as partially refurbished. Bbls show virtually all London quality re-black probably done when guns were re-proofed. Actions show 60 – 70% original case colors, Lockplates show 80 – 90% of their original case colors, with color on gun no. 2 being a bit stronger. Stocks show virtually all of a hand rubbed oil finish with some minor handling marks. Checkering has been freshened. Trigger guards and top levers show a great deal of their original blue, with top levers silvering at thumbpiece, and trigger guards considerably silvered at grips. Actions are tight. Gun no. 1 is slightly off face. Ejectors are in time. Case is very fine. leather still light in color. Interior cloth is good. Labels show some staining from contact with guns. Straps are new replacements. Original handle is good. A fine pair of guns by the most famous makers of “best” guns only. 4-39156 MGM8 (30,000-50,000)
