INUIT CARVED SEATED WALRUS, SIGNED “P. KAVIK”. Carved argillite in green-gray depicting a seated walrus with well defined moustache and coat, simulated ivory tusks and articulated flippers. The base affixed with a Canadian paper label denoting authenticity, a second stick with the carving number “867-4581,” artists name etched alongside. NOTE: Paul Kavik is among the best known of the carvers of Sanikiluaq. PROVENANCE: Fine private Long Island, New York mansion. SIZE: 7-1/2”h x 8-1/4”l.
