F. J. BARTELS SIDE LOCK DOUBLE RIFLE WITH SCOPE. SN 25023. Cal. 9.3 x 72R. Double triggers (Both set). 24-5/8″ Steel bbls are engraved “Friedrich Jacob Bartels. Wiesbaden” on flat matted full length rib w/ cross bolt extension, claw bases, and one standing, 1 folding rear sight and longitudinally dovetailed front bead. Bbl flats have black powder German proofs. Sling loop is screwed to bottom rib. Case hardened action has double under lugs, Greener cross bolt, bushed strikers, and side clips. Engraved w/ simple Germanic scroll at about 50% coverage. Back action side locks have pointer cocking indicators on tumbler ends w/ “Geladen” inlaid in gold. Nicely filed trigger guard is horn. “Sicher” is inlaid in gold in front of safety button. Nicely streaked European walnut semi pistol grip buttstock measures 13-3/4″ over a ribbed horn butt plate, features right hand cheek piece, sling loop, and 20 LPI checkering w/ double line and flat mullered borders. Splinter forend has Deeley latch, and checkering to match buttstock. Weight w/ scope: 7 lbs 14 oz. Weight without scope: 6 lbs 15oz. SCOPE is B. Nickel Supra 4X w/ cross hair reticle and soldered claw mounts w/ windage. PROVENANCE: Dr. Frank Miller Collection. CONDITION: Very good. Bbls retain virtually all good quality re-black. Action retains traces of case color. Lock plates retain 40-50% Orig case color, mostly faded. Stock retains most of high quality rubbed oil refinish w/ edges slightly rounded. Checkering has been re-cut. Henry rifled bores are strong, but slightly frosted throughout. Action is very slightly loose. Triggers work well.
