*MERKEL MODEL 304E OVER-UNDER SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 41961. Spectacular full sidelock Merkel with 28″ bbls choked MOD/IMP-CYL with solid matted rib, single ivory bead, and dbl Greener crossbolt extensions with dbl lugs, ejectors and single selective trigger. Receiver and all appended metal parts are spectacularly deep relief engraved with full plate game scenes consisting of a pointer and four flying grouse in a very detailed woodland/farm scene on the left side and a fox with four flying ducks in a woodland/marsh scene on the right side. Both locks have cock indicators. The entire receiver and parts have deep relief oak leaf, limb and acorn patterns. All executed in marvelous detail. The engraving patterns extend about 1″ over the chambers on the top bbl and completely over both bbl reinforcements. The makers name and address is on the bottom of the receiver and on the left side of top bbl. It is mounted with extremely beautiful, center feather crotch cut French or English walnut with checkered 3-pc forearm and pistol grip stock with raised side panels and extremely fine deep relief carved oak leaf and acorn patterns on the wrist. It is 14″ over the orig very fine checkered hard rubber buttplate which is marked “Germany” and has the company logo. The checkering is extremely fine, about 32 lines per inch. Accompanied by a Boyt, green canvas, and burgundy leather-trimmed takedown case. Drop at heel: 2-3/4″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Bore restrictions: top – .019, bottom – .009. Wall thickness: top – .039 – , bottom – .038. Bore diameter: top – .711, bottom – .721. Weight: 7 lbs 3.52 oz. CONDITION: Extremely fine plus. Has been fired but very little. Bbls retain about 98 – 99% strong bright orig blue. Receiver, top tang and forend iron retain virtually all of their orig coin finish and the trigger guard about 95% bright orig blue, slightly thinned on the lower tang. Wood is sound with a minor handling mark or two and retains virtually all of its brilliant orig finish. Mechanics are crisp. Brilliant shiny bores. 4-56651 JR490 (12,500-17,500)
