BOSTON ROCOCO MAHOGANY ETAGERE, LABELED “GEO. W. WARE & CO.”. Circa 1850. Labeled within the center drawer, in two parts, the upper section with domed molded crest over three mirrorplates behind an arrangement of six shaped shelves joined by turned spindles, the shelves adorned with finials, fitted to the beveled Carrara marble top with serpentine frontal edges above the conforming case with serpentine center drawer flanked by serpentine frieze, all mounted with applied scrolled cartouches, over a central molded door with mirrorplate, flanked by open serpentine display shelves, the molded apron raised on flat disk feet. Paper label within drawer reads as follows: “GEO. W. WARE & CO./ Manufacturers and Dealers in/ FURNITURE,/ Looking-Glasses, and Upholstery Goods,/ PLUSHES, DAMASKS, AND BROCATELLES,/ No.12 Cornhill, and 25 Wash’n Sts.,/ BOSTON”. SIZE: 86-1/2″ h. x 49″ w. x 18-3/4″ d. PROVENANCE: From an extensive private Gulf Coast collection. CONDITION: Professionally refinished and restored, in very good condition overall.
