*JOH. SPRINGER SIDE PLATED EJECTOR DOUBLE RIFLE WITH ORIGINAL SCOPE AND CASE. SN 10479. Cal. 8 x 57JR. Double triggers, both set. Automatic safe. This beautiful little rifle has 22-3/4″ chopper lump bbls, engraved “Joh. Springer’s Erben” on right bbl. and “Gewehrfabrikanten, Wien” on the left. Nicely matted top rib has bases for Tyrolean-type scope mount, rear sight w/ one standing, 1 folding leaf, and transversally dovetailed front sight on raised ramp in front. Muzzles are engraved w/ acanthus and scroll. Breeches are engraved w/ decorative band. Rear portion of rib has scroll engraving. Bottoms of bbls have SN “10479” engraved on the flats along w/ Vienna proofs for 1934. Bottoms of bbls have other Vienna proofs and are marked “Boehler Spezial.” Number “13553” is stamped on the splinter. Case hardened side plated boxlock action has dual under lugs, Purdey hidden third fastener, and bushed strikers. Side plate & action have 80% coverage of beautifully executed floral scroll in Springer’s house style. Floor plate is engraved “J. Springer’s Erbin Gewehrfabrikanten, Wien”. “Safe” is inlaid in gold on top tang. Nicely figured and streaked full pistol grip European walnut buttstock measures 14-1/2″ over a ribbed, horn butt plate, and features a shadow line cheek piece for right handed shooter, horn grip cap, and 28 LPI checkering w/ mullered borders. Anson release splinter forend has script letter “P” in gold inlaid in central diamond. Wood and checkering to match buttstock. Drop at heel: 3″, drop at comb: 1-5/16″. Weight: 7 lbs 5oz. Weight w/ scope: 8 lbs 8oz. Scope is Zeiss Zielvier no. 47531 w/ 4 post and cross hair duplex reticle, engraved “Joh. Springer’s Erben, Wien” on the top. Austrian type mounts soldered to bottom. Front mount is stamped w/ SN. Orig leather cover is stamped “Zielvier.” Oak and Leather CASE has brass corners, dual locks and is embossed “Frederick F. A. Pierson, Sulby Hall, Rugby” on the lid. Interior is lined in green cloth, and contains a Springer marked oil bottle. PROVENANCE: Dr. Frank Miller Collection. CONDITION: Excellent. Bbls retain 98% orig blue. Action retains 95%+ orig case color, silvering on beads, outer edges of fences, and a bit thin on bottom toward forend. Trigger guard retains virtually all of its blue. Top lever and safety button silvering a bit from use. Stocks retain virtually all their original oil finish w/ a few scattered nicks and dings. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are in time. Bores are bright and shiny, w/ slight frosting towards breeches. SCOPE retains virtually all its original blue w/ few light scratches. Optics are slightly fogged. CASE: Leather has a few marks and scuffs. Interior partitions are tight. Cloth is excellent. 4-35646 MGM72 (12,000-15,000)
